New Kyd (they/she) is a Zurich-based interdisciplinary movement artist, choreographer, DJ and producer working across choreography, sound, performance, installation and text. Their practice explores the body as a site where memory, history and imagination continue to move. Through gestures, rhythms, storytelling and somatic experience, Kyd investigates how knowledge is transmitted beyond language; preserving traces of what has been forgotten, displaced or transformed over time.
Drawing from archival inquiry, embodied research, improvisation, movement scores and experimental storytelling, Kyd transforms historical and cultural material into physical and visceral experiences. Influenced by modern and post-modern dance lineages, expressionist practices, Yoruba Orisha movement traditions, performance scores and social dances, they approach choreography as both a physical and philosophical practice: a way of examining how bodies understand time, space, connection and collective experience. Their work sits at the intersection of dance history, cultural memory, anthropology, psychology and embodied knowledge.
This approach is reflected in JOY(CE), a solo work exploring the lost future and death of Joyce Carol Vincent through spectral resistance, the captive maternal and the forgotten voices of marginalised women; I’ll Meet You at the End, a research performance examining the Strasbourg dancing plague of 1518; and Chanson Noire: The Tale of Pomegranates, which draws from Cabaret Voltaire’s Dadaist anti-war legacy to bring Oya and Persephone into dialogue as figures of transformation, survival and creative resistance.
Kyd’s ongoing research includes Like This, Like That, which reimagines opulence and postmodern movement practices through Yoruba methodologies, and Birds of Lost Futures / WRYNECK: The Slow Cancellation of the Future — Melancholia, a gothic dance theatre project exploring historical memory and collective resistance through the story of the Little Rock Nine. Across these works, Kyd brings Yoruba cosmology, Dada, hauntology and dance histories into dialogue, tracing the “ghosts” that persist within culture: ancestral presences, displaced narratives and embodied forms of knowledge that continue to shape contemporary bodies.
Their work has been presented and developed with institutions and platforms including Tanzhaus Zürich, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Museum Rietberg, Cabaret Voltaire, Berghain Halle, Judson Memorial Church, Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin, NIDA Art Colony and Riffraff/Houdini Cinema. Kyd has collaborated and performed with artists including Trajal Harrell, Paul Maheke, Jeremy Nedd, Ligia Lewis, Tiran Willemse, Wu Tsang / Moved by the Motion, Jeremy Shaw, Shu Lea Cheang and Latefa Wiersch. They are currently a member of the Zurich Dance Ensemble with Trajal Harrell, performing in works including: The Köln Concert, Tambourines, The Romeo, Ghost Ballet and more.
Alongside their choreographic and performance practice, Kyd works as a DJ and producer under the name Silver Tears, extending their investigation of rhythm, collective experience and embodied culture into sound.
